The Board of Directors is the governing body of The Foundation, responsible for administrative policy and the authorization of all grants. Each of the members brings his or her own experience and background, whether in business, community service, law, education, finance or other areas to bear on the direction of the Foundation’s work. Their experience with local issues and knowledge of changing economic and social conditions sharpens their ability to function on behalf of The Foundation. It is their responsibility to represent the donors’ interests, to monitor grantees, and to ensure through the years a most advantageous application of grant dollars.
Meet the Current Board Members
Bob Chamberlain is a retired executive from Ciba Geigy after 37 years. He has been a resident of southeast Guilford County for 40 years. He is an active member of Community in Christ Presbyterian Church as well as active in many other community organizations since moving to the southeast Guilford Community. Bob is currently President of the Southeast Guilford Community Foundation.
Carla Strickland, now retired, served as Executive Director for a not-for-profit trade association for 28 years. She has been a resident of Pleasant Garden for 13 years, currently serving as Mayor for three terms. Carla has been a member of the board for 1 ½ years and is the current Vice President. In addition, she is an active member of Pleasant Garden United Methodist Church.
Nanette Turner has worked at Labcorp in Burlington and McLeansville, North Carolina for 15 years and is currently a Billing Test System Analyst. She has lived in the Greensboro area for 20 years with 16 years in the southeast Guilford County area. She has been a volunteer with the Wyndham Championship for the past 20 years and has worked with the North Carolina Distinguished Young Women program for the past 4 years.
Dan Rogers is an Information Technology Manager at National General Insurance with over 35 years of experience. He moved to Pleasant Garden at age 3 and has lived in the Forest Oaks area since graduating from college. Dan is a charter member and officer in both the Southeast Guilford Community Association and the Southeast Guilford Community Foundation.
David (Dave) Gearhart retired from Grainger as an Operations Manager for 22 years. He has been a resident of southeast Guilford County for 39 year. He is a co-founder and past president of both the Southeast Guilford Community Association and the Southeast Guilford Community Foundation.
Jon Hardister is a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives. He is a lifelong resident of Guilford County and a graduate of Greensboro College with a vocational background in marketing and real estate. He serves on the Board of Visitors for the UNCG School of Health and Human Sciences and he is on the Board of Directors for the local chapter of the Boy Scouts of America.
Bob Young is a Commercial Relationship Manager at Bank of Oak Ridge. He has been a commercial banker in Guilford County for over 36 years. Over the years, Bob has been involved in various civic and vocational activities and has been a member of the Southeast Community Foundation for the past year. He has lived in Greensboro, NC since age 2 and graduated from Page High School and UNC-CH.
Larry Burnett is the Executive Director of Hayes-Taylor Memorial YMCA in Greensboro, NC. A veteran of 25 years in the Army, Lieutenant Colonel Burnett received a Regular Army Commission from NC A&T State University in 1980, as a Distinguished Military Graduate. Larry is also a graduate of the United States Army Command and General Staff College. He is a Master-Rated Paratrooper and he spent most of his career in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg and the Pentagon Command Center in Washington, DC. He continues to serve on numerous board and committees in the Triad area.
